Lugano
Lugano is the oldest Swiss city. It is located near Italy, so the sunshine and cheerfulness is felt both in the culture and in the behavior of the inhabitants of Lugano. “Rio de Janeiro of the Old World” is the name given to this lakeside city in the Italian part of Switzerland for its temperament (and the corresponding climate). The view of palm trees against the background of Alpine peaks will please the eye of even a seasoned traveler. Several urban recreation areas on the shore offer swimming and water sports: windsurfing, paragliding, sailing boats, water skiing. Hiking on mountain trails, horse riding, mountain biking, golf is very popular. Museum “Switzerland in Miniature”
The museum “Switzerland in Miniature” is located in the small town of Melido, a forty-minute river trip from Lugano. The museum presents about 125 models of various buildings, made on a scale of 1: 25. Some are as tall as a man, others even bigger. It is possible for an additional fee to “go around the whole of Switzerland” on a mini-train
Villa Favorita
Villa Favorita is located in the area of Lugano called Castagnola-Cassarate. There are several reasons to look here, one of them is that there is a collection of paintings, which for a long time had no equal in the whole world. It belonged to Baron Heinrik of Thyssen-Bornelinza, who ceded a substantial part of it to the state. Around the villa, there is an amazing park, where after visiting the exhibition you can take a walk and slowly comprehend what you have seen
Cathedral of San Lorenzo
The Cathedral of San Lorenzo (Cathedral of St. Lawrence) in Lugano is a majestic Catholic church, another example of cultural influence on the city, located very close to Italy. The temple was built “in two stages” – in the 9th and 15th centuries, so in its architecture and interior, you can find traces of different eras. A true connoisseur will savor the polyphony, and everyone else will just find the cathedral very attractive.
Villa Ciani
Villa Ciani is located in the city park. After a long walk through its shady alleys, you can begin to explore the villa itself. It was built by the Chiani brothers, who can be safely called outstanding patrons. It is notable for the fact that it houses the City Museum. And they also say that Garibaldi once hid here from his pursuers, forced to leave his homeland
