Finnish village of Inari
From Rovaniemi, a half-day bus ride to the village of Inari, located on the shores of Inariarvi, one of the largest lakes in Finland.

There is an excellent Sami museum near the village. The open-air exposition will give an idea of how the Sami survived in Arctic conditions in their fur-covered shelters (kota), and numerous Sami household items are presented in the museum premises.
In summer, from Inari, you can take a water excursion to the sacred island of Ukonkivi for the Sami, where a sign marks the place of worship of deities and sacrifices. At a distance of 7 kilometers from Inari is the charming taiga church of Pielpayarvi of 1754 (the first church was built on this site back in 1646).
Accommodation and meals in Inari village
Finding accommodation in the village is not a problem, although Inari is crowded with tourists during the summer season. Inari Kultahovi on Saarikoskentie 2 is a simple hotel with a good restaurant. Camping Uruniemi (open from October to April, but advance booking is required) is located 3 kilometers south of Inari in a beautiful location near the lake.
The village of Inari is located on the shore of Lake Inarijarvi, the third largest lake in Finland. At least seven different types of salmon fish are caught in it. Hundreds of islands located on the lake are excellent protected places for fishing.
Inari is located in the heart of Europe’s largest area of untouched wildlife and is also the administrative and cultural center of the Finnish Sami. Since 1996, the Finnish Sami Parliament has been operating here, located in the new Sajos Cultural Center. Nearby are the Siida Exhibition Center, the Sami Museum, and the Nature Center of Upper Lapland.
Acquaintance with the Sami culture can begin in a museum, on a deer farm or in shops of traditional Sami handicrafts.
The nature of the region and local traditions give birth to beautiful examples of decorative and applied art and needlework, which can be bought for home decoration, as souvenirs or as wedding gifts.
Inari Municipality is home to most of the non-industrial gold deposits in Finland.

The amazing purity of Lake Inari (or Inariarvi), which is located beyond the Arctic Circle, is considered one of the best places in Suomi for fishing. Trout sparkling in the sun, fat salmon, cunning pike or agile perch – these are the permanent inhabitants of its waters. Due to the fact that Inari is located in the northeastern part of Lapland, it is not so easy to get to it. The nearest major city of Ivalo accepts domestic flights from the capital, in addition, buses run from Rovaniemi and other cities of Lapland. There are not so many large settlements here — these are Partakko, Vyayulya, Inari and Kopello. But such a remote location guarantees a fantastic vacation in nature. And even if the infrastructure here is not as developed as in the vicinity of Helsinki, but the abundance of fish and sweet air will make up for these shortcomings a hundredfold.
Despite the fact that Inari is located beyond the Arctic Circle, it freezes only from November to March, all the rest of the year its heavily indented swampy shores are ready to receive greedy fishermen. All those who are forced to accompany these personalities, who forget about everything in the world at the sight of spinning, should know that there are sights on the lake where you can spend two or three hours wonderfully. For example, the old town of Inari, the island-cemetery of the ancient Sami Hautuumaasaari, the place of sacrifice of the ancient ancestors of the locals of Lapland — the Ukko stone, a deer farm 15 km from Inari, as well as Ukonkivi Island – a candidate for the UNESCO list. And, of course, the Sami Museum in Inari, where you can get acquainted with the culture, way of life and beliefs of these original inhabitants of the north of Suomi.
It is better to go fishing on Inari from August to October when there is an active season of trout fishing and amazing tender salmon.

How to get there: by car on the E75 highway, which runs through the whole of Finland from north to south. By plane to the airport in Ivalo, 45 km south of the lake. By bus from Rovaniemi (5-6 hours on the way) or Helsinki (17-18 hours).
