Idaho is home to several national parks, which showcase the state’s diverse natural beauty and offer a wide range of recreational opportunities.  Idaho has the following national parks:

  1. Yellowstone National Park:
    • Location: While Yellowstone National Park primarily lies in Wyoming, it also extends into Idaho, Montana, and features two entrances in Idaho.
    • Description: Yellowstone is the world’s first national park and is known for its remarkable geothermal features, including the famous Old Faithful geyser. It’s a haven for wildlife, with bison, elk, grizzly bears, and wolves roaming its vast wilderness. The park is also home to breathtaking canyons, waterfalls, and pristine lakes.
  2. Grand Teton National Park:
    • Location: Grand Teton National Park is located in northwestern Wyoming, but it is in close proximity to the Idaho border.
    • Description: Grand Teton National Park is renowned for its rugged mountain landscapes, particularly the Teton Range. Visitors can explore a variety of outdoor activities, from hiking and camping to boating on the picturesque Jenny Lake. The park offers excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing, including moose, elk, and various bird species.
  3. Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument:
    • Location: This national monument is located near Hagerman, Idaho.
    • Description: Hagerman Fossil Beds is an important site for paleontological research, known for its well-preserved fossils from the Pliocene epoch, including the Hagerman horse and other prehistoric animals. Visitors can explore the Visitor Center and see various exhibits related to the ancient history of the region.
  4. Minidoka National Historic Site:
    • Location: Minidoka National Historic Site is located near Jerome, Idaho.
    • Description: This site commemorates the experience of Japanese-Americans who were interned during World War II. It includes the remnants of the Minidoka War Relocation Center and offers insights into this chapter of American history through interpretive exhibits.
