Description of Prague, city districts
Prague is comfortably located on the banks of the Vltava River, which divides the city into two parts. The territory of the city is divided into 15 administrative districts, the most interesting of which are the central “Prague-1” and “Prague-2“. The river is spanned by more than 10 bridges, the most famous of which is the Charles Bridge – one of the main attractions of the city. The Gothic-style pedestrian bridge is decorated with ancient sculptures, and its image is one of the symbols of Prague.
On the right bank of the Vltava River, there are such interesting areas as Stare Mesto (Old Town), Nove Mesto (New Town), the Jewish quarter Josefov. There is a huge number of attractions, the most famous of which are the Old Town Hall and the Astronomical Clock, the Church of the Virgin Mary, Wenceslas Square, the Powder Tower, the Dancing House, and others. A trip to Visegrad can be very interesting – an ancient fortress is a favorite place for leisurely walks among the residents of Prague and guests of the city.
On the left bank of the river is the famous Prague Castle – the largest surviving medieval castle in the world, the heart of Prague, a full-fledged symbol of the city. There are many interesting sights on the territory of Prague Castle, including the grandiose St. Vitus Cathedral – the world-famous Gothic temple. In one of the towers of the cathedral, there is an observation deck, which is reached by 300 stone steps of a spiral staircase.
Special attention should be paid to the Petrzyn hill – the highest of the nine hills on which Prague stands. This place is closely connected with the name of the famous poetess Marina Tsvetaeva, she even dedicated the famous “Poem of the Mountain” to Petrzhin. At the top of the hill is a magnificent rose garden, as well as an unusual tower with an observation deck, similar to the Eiffel Tower in Paris – from here you can enjoy a surprisingly beautiful view of the city.
If you are traveling with children, do not avoid the Prague Zoo. This is one of the largest zoos in Europe, on a huge territory you can meet many interesting and rare animals. There is a zoo at a distance from the city center, in a picturesque area near Troisky Castle.
Of course, when talking about Prague, it is impossible not to mention Czech beer, which is offered in abundance in numerous Prague pubs.
