Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, has various modes of water and air transportation.
Water Transportation: Mexico City is not known for extensive water transportation within the city itself. However, there are some bodies of water, such as canals and lakes, in and around the city. Xochimilco, a southern borough of Mexico City, is famous for its extensive canal system, and tourists often take colorful boats called “trajineras” for leisure rides along the canals. These rides provide a unique and traditional experience, allowing visitors to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and picturesque surroundings.
Air Transportation: Mexico City has a major international airport called Benito Juárez International Airport (Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juárez), which is one of the busiest airports in Latin America. It serves as a hub for both domestic and international flights. The airport has two terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
- Domestic Flights: The airport handles numerous domestic flights connecting Mexico City to various destinations within Mexico. Popular domestic airlines operate from here.
- International Flights: Benito Juárez International Airport is a key gateway for international travelers, offering flights to and from destinations worldwide. Many major airlines operate international flights from this airport.
- Ground Transportation to/from the Airport: The airport is well-connected to the city center and surrounding areas by various ground transportation options, including taxis, shuttle services, and the metro.
Metro System: While not water transportation, it’s worth mentioning that Mexico City has an extensive metro system that serves as a vital mode of transportation for the city’s residents. The metro system has multiple lines covering various parts of the city and is an efficient way to navigate through the urban sprawl.
