It became a major Crusader stronghold during the medieval era, known as “Saint-Jean d’Acre.” It was an important center for trade during the Crusader period and played a key role in the Crusades.
  4. Mamluk and Ottoman Periods: Acre was captured by the Mamluks in 1291, marking the end of Crusader rule. The city then became part of the Ottoman Empire in 1517 and remained under Ottoman control for centuries. It was an important Ottoman port and administrative center.
  5. British Mandate and Modern Era: Acre was part of the British Mandate for Palestine from 1918 to 1948. During this time, the city’s population grew, and it became a mixed Jewish and Arab city. After the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, Acre remained within Israeli territory and is now part of the modern State of Israel.
  6. UNESCO World Heritage Site: Acre’s old city has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its historical and architectural significance. The city boasts well-preserved examples of Crusader, Ottoman, and other historical architecture.
