Tehran is the capital city of Iran, a country located in Western Asia. Tehran is the largest city in Iran and serves as the political, cultural, and economic center of the country. It is situated in the north-central part of Iran, at the foothills of the Alborz Mountains. Here are some key facts about Tehran:

  1. Population: Tehran is one of the most populous cities in the Middle East, with a population of over 8 million people as of my last knowledge update in September 2021. The metropolitan area has a much larger population.
  2. History: Tehran has a rich history, dating back over 200 years as the capital of Iran. It became the capital in the 18th century under the Qajar dynasty.
  3. Economy: Tehran is a major economic hub in Iran. It is home to numerous industries, including manufacturing, technology, and finance. The Tehran Stock Exchange is one of the largest in the region.
  4. Culture: The city is known for its cultural diversity and historical landmarks. It has numerous museums, art galleries, and theaters, including the National Museum of Iran and the Golestan Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  5. Education: Tehran is home to many universities, including the University of Tehran, Sharif University of Technology, and Tehran University of Medical Sciences. These institutions attract students from all over Iran and the world.
  6. Transportation: The city has an extensive public transportation system, including a metro system, buses, and taxis. Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport is the main gateway to the city for international travelers.
  7. Landmarks: In addition to the Golestan Palace, Tehran has other notable landmarks such as the Azadi Tower, Milad Tower, and the Grand Bazaar.
