Armenia is a state in the Caucasus, located on the border of Europe and Asia; former Soviet republic of the USSR. Armenia is one of the oldest Christian countries, so there are many important religious monuments here. The most famous among them are the Greco-Roman temple of Garni and the Etchmiadzin Cathedral – the main temple of the Armenian Church built in the 4th century. A popular place of pilgrimage is the monastery of Khor Virap. It is located near Mount Ararat, which is an inactive volcano and is located in Turkey.
