Illustrator Map Golden Circle Iceland

The Golden Circle is a popular tourist route in Iceland that covers several key attractions, including Þingvellir National Park, Geysir Geothermal Area, and Gullfoss Waterfall. The principal roads that form the Golden Circle are part of Iceland’s well-maintained road network, and the route is easily accessible from the capital city, Reykjavik. Please note that road conditions and names may be subject to change, so it’s always a good idea to check for updates before planning your trip.

Here is a brief description of the principal streets and roads that make up the Golden Circle:

  1. Route 1 (Ring Road):
    • The Golden Circle is typically accessible via Route 1, also known as the Ring Road. This is Iceland’s main highway that encircles the entire island.
  2. Þingvallavegur (Road 36):
    • This road leads to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It offers stunning views and takes you through the Icelandic landscape.
  3. Geysirvegur (Road 35):
    • Geysirvegur leads to the Geysir Geothermal Area, where you can witness the famous Geysir and Strokkur geysers. The road provides access to other geothermal features in the area.
  4. Gullfoss Circle (Road 35 and Road 30):
    • Gullfoss Waterfall is accessed via Road 35 and Road 30. Gullfoss is one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls, and the road takes you to a parking area from where you can walk to the waterfall.
  5. Kaldidalur (Road 52):
    • Some variations of the Golden Circle include a detour to Kaldidalur, a mountain track that offers a scenic route through the highlands. It’s important to note that this road may only be accessible during the summer months, and a 4×4 vehicle is recommended.

Please keep in mind that road conditions in Iceland can be influenced by weather, and it’s crucial to check for updates from official sources, such as the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration (Vegagerðin), especially if you plan to travel in the winter months. Additionally, it’s advisable to have a reliable map or GPS navigation system for your journey.
