DWG Map Haute Normandie France

Haute-Normandie, a former administrative region in northern France, is known for its picturesque landscapes and natural beauty, even though it has been merged with Basse-Normandie to form the new region of Normandy. While it doesn’t have any national parks in the traditional sense, it does boast several regional parks and nature reserves that offer a wide range of outdoor activities and opportunities to explore the local flora and fauna. Here are some of the notable natural areas in Haute-Normandie:

  1. Parc Naturel Régional des Boucles de la Seine Normande: This regional nature park, located in the Seine River loops, offers a diverse range of landscapes, including wetlands, forests, cliffs, and meadows. The park is known for its rich biodiversity and is an excellent place for hiking, bird watching, and water-based activities like kayaking and boating.
  2. Marais Vernier: The Marais Vernier is a beautiful wetland area located along the Seine River. It’s part of the Parc Naturel Régional des Boucles de la Seine Normande and is a haven for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. The marshes, reed beds, and tidal habitats make it a great place for observing local and migratory bird species.
  3. Forêt de Brotonne: This large forest, also situated within the Boucles de la Seine Normande Regional Park, offers numerous hiking and biking trails. It’s known for its extensive beech tree groves and diverse wildlife.
  4. Les Falaises d’Étretat: While not a park in the traditional sense, the stunning chalk cliffs of Étretat are a famous natural attraction in Haute-Normandie. These cliffs, with their distinctive arches and rock formations, have inspired numerous artists and writers over the years. There are hiking trails along the cliffs that provide breathtaking views of the English Channel.
  5. La Boucle de la Seine: This is a picturesque loop in the Seine River near Rouen, the capital of Haute-Normandie. The riverside offers opportunities for picnicking, walking, and enjoying the scenery. It’s a great place to relax and soak in the natural beauty of the region.

While Haute-Normandie might not have traditional national parks, its regional parks, nature reserves, and scenic landscapes provide ample opportunities for nature lovers to explore the region’s natural beauty and enjoy outdoor activities. These areas are popular with both locals and tourists looking to experience the diverse and charming landscapes of northern France.
