Golden Gate Park is one of the most visited tourist spots in San Francisco. Geographically, the park is located in the northwest of the city, passing through it, you can go to Ocean Beach, located on the Pacific coast.
The park has a rectangular shape and occupies 4.12 sq. km. Externally, it somewhat resembles Central Park in New York but exceeds it by 20% in size. In terms of attendance, it occupies an honorable third place among the country's parks, right after the already mentioned Central Park and Lincoln Park in Chicago.
There are 2 large museums in the park: the California Academy of Sciences and the de Young Museum, you can also visit the Japanese Tea Garden, the Botanical Garden, and other interesting locations. The park is decorated with trees, shrubs, flowerbeds with beautiful flowers, there are also several reservoirs in it, an artificially created waterfall. The Golden Gate Park is considered an excellent place for picnics, hiking and cycling, sports, and other outdoor activities.
Concerts of both famous performers and San Francisco street bands are often held here. In addition to the rich flora, there are also many birds and animals in the park, and there is even a separate bison pasture. In 1967, the park became famous all over the world as a haven for hippies during the "Summer of Love".
Other popular park areas in San Francisco include the oldest park in the city, Buena Vista Park, located next door, and the place where the city began, Presidio Park.

In the park, you can feel the oriental philosophy by visiting the Japanese Tea Garden. It began to be created in 1894 as a temporary exhibition within the framework of the then World Exhibition. However, after its completion, it was decided to keep it on a permanent basis, in the future it was modified and improved. The role of such gardens is to create the necessary atmosphere for the tea ceremony. All the elements here are harmonious and set up in a peaceful way, at the heart of the landscape composition are trees, stones, streams and other natural objects. There are many Japanese plants planted in the garden, and you can see splashing fish in the ponds. Pagodas, bridges, waterfalls, statues are located on the territory of the garden.
Museum-lovers should visit the California Academy of Sciences, which is engaged not only in research but also in organizing exhibitions that introduce natural history. In the ultramodern complex, you can visit the planetarium, see the living rainforest and its inhabitants, in its aquarium you can observe the underwater world. A variety of expositions and an exciting presentation of the material will not let either children or adults get bored.

Also on the territory of the Golden Gate, there is an art museum named after its founder de Young. It contains a collection of American art (painting, sculpture, decorative, and applied art), covering the period from the XVII century to the present day. The exhibition presents a collection that gives an idea of the diversity and richness of African art, a significant part of the exhibits was created in the period from the XIX to the middle of the XX centuries. A separate exhibition is dedicated to fabrics and textiles. Also in the museum, you can see an exhibition of photographs, including significant historical photographs. The highlight of the museum is the presence of an observation deck, which offers excellent views of the city.

Conservatory of Flowers. This is the name of a large botanical garden created in 1878. It contains about 1,700 different species of plants from all over the world.
Academy of Sciences. This is a vast, grandiose museum, which is simultaneously a planetarium, an aquarium, a rainforest, and a natural history museum. More than 40 thousand animals live here, and the Academy of Sciences has a collection of 20 million exhibits. This building is equipped with the latest technology.
The Botanical Garden (or San Francisco Botanical Garden) is a real outdoor splendor, presenting visitors with 7,500 plants from all over the world.

Stone Lake. This lake is surrounded by Strawberry Hill, from which it then flows into an artificially created waterfall.

In addition to these areas, Golden Gate Park has a number of interesting places, for example, a Japanese tea garden with many ponds and paths, with themed bridges and sculptures, a paddock with bison in the western part of Golden Gate Park, mills, Biblical and Shakespeare Gardens, Chalet Park and many others.

You can choose a convenient way to get around the park - a walk on a segway. The service of the standard Segway Tour program includes 30-45 minutes of training for novice riders and a 2.5-hour guided segway tour through the eastern part of the park.
