Urban plan Cannes France: Cartography for Tourists and Travellers

Cannes is a world-famous resort of the Cote d'Azur, attracting tourists from all over the world. It is a city of all kinds of festivals and architectural monuments, impeccable coastal hotels, magnificent sandy beaches and churches, chapels, and old houses.

The city was founded by the Romans in 42 BC. For many centuries it remained a small fishing village, but since the XIX century. Cannes is beginning to be popular among English aristocrats, fascinated by the climate, nature, and beauty of this place.

The main street of the city is the Croisette embankment (La Croisette) - the venue for all festive events and a favorite tourist destination. The Palais des Festivals, located here, is the heart of the famous Cannes Film Festival but also hosts all kinds of conferences, tournaments and trade exhibitions. Other attractions of interest are the picturesque Palm Beach Peak, Alexander III Theater, Liberty Alley, Villa Fiesole (Domergue, XIX century) La Maren Museum, Photography Museum, golf Club, Espace-Miramar Theater, "Aubergé-Provencal" - the oldest restaurant in Cannes, the Royal Casino Hotel and the famous Carlton Hotel. And, of course, numerous fashionable restaurants and cafes, shops and boutiques, salons and trading houses, for which this city is so famous.

Despite its brilliant reputation as a pompous international exhibition center, Cannes is surprisingly well suited for the role of a seaside resort - sandy public beaches are located very close to the embankment, first of all, the famous, albeit small, Croisette beach in the suburb of Le Boquet, as well as numerous closed beaches belonging to the luxurious palaces-hotels of the city. Tennis courts and golf courses are also at your disposal. At a time convenient for you, you can make many interesting excursions - along the coast and by sea, including a trip to the Lerin Islands and Corsica.

World fame literally hit Cannes after the Second World War — when the city became the venue of the famous film festival. Although Cannes nowadays is strongly associated with the red carpet of the Palais des Festivals, the luxury of pompous hotels, and the gloss of the Croisette embankment, the city has preserved its face and remained faithful to the democratic past: it has not turned into a "reserve of the rich", every tourist can find a hotel here for his wallet and a pastime to his taste — this makes Cannes truly attractive.

Cannes ceased to be a village only in the 19th century, so it is useless to look for the old town here - although the Suquet quarter is partly able to replace it: from the Chevalier Mountain there are beautiful views of the city and the harbor, and the Gothic Cathedral of Our Lady of Hope, the La Castres Museum with a rich exposition and the Medieval watchtower - continue to be one of the main tourist attractions of Cannes, despite the competition of the Palais des Festivals.

The city center, which locals familiarly call "banana" for its shape, is the complete opposite of Suke. This is a quarter of exquisite boutiques and expensive restaurants located on and near Antibes Street.

Although robberies and robberies are rare in Cannes, there are enough cases of fraud and pickpocketing, especially in the city center — therefore, when looking at the windows, do not forget about elementary caution.
The famous Croisette embankment connects the center of Cannes with the old port and the Palais des Festivals. During large events (the Cannes Film Festival is just one of them), it is crowded, but on normal days it is a favorite walking place for both locals and tourists.

The name of the La California quarter evokes associations with the USA, and this is not accidental: although in the 19th century it was chosen by English and Russian aristocrats, nowadays most of the luxury villas belong to American millionaires - this is one of the most luxurious "sleeping quarters" not only in France but throughout Europe.

The houses of local residents are mainly located northwest of the city center, in the Petit Juras quarter. This is a quiet bourgeois area, devoid of special attractions, but with a kind of unprovoked charm — here you can walk thoughtfully and unhurriedly, taking a break from the hustle and bustle of the city.
