I had to get a world map the other day, and literally googled ‘world map vector ‘ got one for free (non commercial, commercial license available.) Indeed, it takes a bit of fiddleing with some software if i recall correct, but you get a nice fuly editable vector file out of it. I used it once to make a custom townmap. I simply did a Google search for vector maps of _______ and had zero trouble finding what I needed. For free. Source.
